ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Albemarle County Public Schools have announced it is in discussions with Charlottesville City Schools about the county school division’s interest in purchasing the Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center, which is commonly known as CATEC. 

The building is nearly 60,000 square feet and is located at 1000 Rio Road.

This will offer 10 high school programs by providing hands-on and work-based learning opportunities to equip students to either immediately enter the workforce or to pursue post-graduate education.

The school division mentions that this facility could bring more students from both the county and the city from this addition. 

Albemarle County Public Schools state that, under this offer to the city, high school students will continue to attend CATEC.

The county school division states that this acquisition can be completed within the coming months.
