ALBEMARLE COUNTY, VA (CBS 19 NEWS) -- The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA has announced that it is celebrating Pit Bull Awareness Month by waiving adoption fees for adult pit bull mixes from Oct. 21 through Oct. 31.

Bully breeds are said to be misunderstood and mislabeled because they can make great house pets.

The SPCA states it is encouraging anyone who is interested in adopting to visit the shelter and learn about the personalities the Pit bulls in its care.

“Pit bulls are loyal and people-oriented dogs. They thrive as part of a family and are known to be incredibly affectionate,” said Angie Gunter, Chief Executive Officer of the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA.

The SPCA is open for adoptions every day from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
