CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- For the eighth year, a local travel agency is collecting coats to help refugees.

Peace Frogs Travel/Outfitters has teamed up with International Neighbors to help collect new and gently used coats.

Over the years, Peace Frogs has donated about 1,600 coats to refugees in the area, many of whom have never experienced cold weather like what Virginia gets.

So far this year, the company has collected only a few coats and it is looking to the community for some help.

"We've done the coat drive, this is our eighth year, that we’ve done it for a long, long time,” said Julie Arbelaez, the owner of Peace Frogs. “We feel out mission is not only to get people out, traveling to see the world, but that we have a cultural connection right here in our own community and there are so many refugees that come into Charlottesville and we want it to feel like an amazing place for them. And some place where they feel welcomed and loved and cared for."

Last year, the company was able to give out 600 coats, and it hopes to have the same number to give out this year.

Anyone interested in donating a coat can bring it to Peace Frogs on Millmont Street. Donations are being accepted at Peace Frogs until Nov. 11, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Coats will be distributed beginning on Nov. 13.
