Star of VAFF documentary says wants to change opinion on disabled people and having a family
CHARLOTTESVILLE. Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Virginia Film Festival (VAFF) is sharing an amazing medical and emotional story.
The documentary “Dani’s Twins” details how Dani Izzie became one of the only quadriplegics to ever give birth to twins when she had her children at the University of Virginia Medical Center during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Izzie said she wants the film to show people with disabilities that their private medical information or trauma is their own to share. She also wants to change how viewers think about people with disabilities.
"Part of the message is to show that family and community are universal experiences that we all deserve to have and to have access to," Izzie said.
She says women's empowerment also plays a role in the film.
The screening is on Thursday night, and there will be a discussion panel afterward.
