AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- One person was killed in an early Sunday morning crash in Augusta County.

According to the Virginia State Police, the crash occurred around 1 a.m. Sunday on Tinkling Spring Road, just north of the intersection with Round Hill Drive.

Police say a 1991 Ford Taurus was heading south on Tinkling Spring Road when it entered a curve and ran off the side of the road.

The sedan then hit a sign, went down an embankment, overturned and caught fire.

The driver, identified as 65-year-old Robert L. Wells, Jr. of Stuarts Draft, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. He died at the scene.

The crash is still under investigation.
