LYNCHBURG, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Republican Congressman Bob Good has kept his seat in the U.S. House, representing the Fifth Congressional District of Virginia.

It was an overwhelming victory over Democrat Josh Throneburg.

As the votes were tallied on Tuesday, there was a festive mood at Good’s campaign party in Lynchburg.

It was a wire-to-wire win for the first-term Republican.

Reporters were not permitted to hear Good speak to his supporters, but he did speak to news crews afterward.

“Well the people of the Fifth District have spoken loudly and convincingly that the Fifth District is a bright red conservative district and I’m just so encouraged and so thankful to the voters of the Fifth District who gave us overwhelming support, about 10 points above where we finished two years ago,” said Good.

He was the favored candidate in the race, and the results echoed those forecasts.
