CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Salvation Army is getting ready for the holiday season.

As the winter holidays approach, there is a need for Salvation Army bell ringers. The money raised helps to provide support to the community all year long and there is always a way to lend a helping hand.

“Maybe you can’t donate like you used to because you’re having the same problem. You could go and help and man a kettle for a day or a couple of hours. I say get five of your friends, you can cover a whole day,” said Major Walter Strong, Core Officer of Salvation Army Charlottesville.

There are options to ring a bell alone, in a group, or virtually, which the Salvation Army started after COVID. Virtual bell ringers share a link with friends and family and ask them to donate.

The funds can help more than 25 million people in need each year, so the Salvation Army asks people to consider donating their time.
