VSP investigating fatal weekend crash involving a pedestrian
CLARKE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A pedestrian was killed in a weekend crash that occurred in Clarke County.
The Virginia State Police reports the crash occurred around 8:20 p.m. Saturday on Lord Fairfax Highway, near the intersection with Llewellyn Lane.
A pedestrian, who was walking south on Lord Fairfax Highway, was hit from behind by a southbound 2016 Toyota Tundra.
VSP reports the Toyota was unable to avoid the pedestrian, who was wearing dark, non-reflective clothing.
The Toyota, driven by a 57-year-old man from Berryville, stopped and stayed at the scene.
He was not hurt in the crash and was wearing a seat belt.
The pedestrian, identified as 47-year-old Gary W. Meadows of Boyce, died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
No charges have been filed.
The crash is under investigation.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reminds people that pedestrians should walk facing traffic if there are no sidewalks or paths available.
