CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The man accused of shooting and killing three University of Virginia football players will remain in police custody.

Christopher Darnell Jones, Jr. made his first appearance in an Albemarle County courtroom on Wednesday morning via video conference.

Jones is being held without bond.

While in court, new alleged details regarding Sunday's shooting on Grounds were revealed.

Prosecutors say witnesses said Jones was not shooting randomly at people on the bus. Witnesses say Jones shot Devin Chandler while he was asleep.

There was also discussion about previous cases in the Richmond area, for which Jones had received suspended sentences.

One of the Richmond cases involved a concealed weapon violation and the other was for a hit-and-run with property damage in Petersburg.

Jones said he wants his own attorney but he does not have one yet, so he will be assigned a public defender until he hires his own.

This is a developing story. A request to have a camera in the courtroom was denied Wednesday morning.
