CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Work to paint the Beta Bridge in honor of three slain football players has been completed.

University of Virginia students finished painting the bridge Wednesday in honor of Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis, Jr., and D’Sean Perry.

The bridge now says “Forever in our hearts” and “UVA Strong” as well as the players’ numbers and initials.

Students are now writing messages to the players on the wall and leaving flowers.

There is also a memorial to them at Scott Stadium, which received a visit from Governor Glenn Youngkin on Tuesday.

The three players were killed and two other people were hurt Sunday night in a shooting that occurred on Grounds.

One of the injured people, another member of the UVA football team, is still in the hospital after undergoing two surgeries.

The other injured person was released from the hospital on Tuesday.

The person accused of the shooting, a former member of the UVA football team, made his first appearance in court on Wednesday morning, during which he was denied bond.
