CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Brunch is the ultimate connector, the perfect convergence of food, comfort, and friendship, according to show creator Dan Levy.

"The Big Brunch" on HBO Max brings ten chefs together for the ultimate brunch competition.

This is not your average cooking competition, as each chef is showcasing their talents while focusing on the community from which they came and they are cooking their way to a $300,000 cash prize.

One of those chefs is Culinary Concepts AB founder, Antwon Brinson.

“The Big Brunch” was looking for chefs who are doing stuff for the community in the hospitality industry and who are trying to move the needle.

“I thought it would be a great opportunity to share our message with the world and showcase some of the amazing programs that we have,” said Brinson, who was referred to the show by his mother-in-law.

Brinson is also a teacher, and “The Big Brunch” has given him the opportunity to showcase what he teaches to his own students while learning from other chefs around him.

“It was absolutely amazing to connect with other people around the nation who are doing similar things in their community, with the silver lining of how do I create change to move our industry forward,” Brinson added.

He hopes that viewers see the love and passion each chef has for their community while enjoying a new take on a culinary experience.

“If they take anything away from me, it’s 'be your authentic self. Use food as a way to express who you are, use food as a way to explore your culture and new cultures,'” Brinson said.

“The Big Brunch” can be seen on HBO Max, with the final two episodes airing on Nov. 24.
