Feel Good Friday: SEALKids honors Navy SEAL families
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- King Family Vineyards is hosting a special event for the families of Navy SEALs in partnership with the organization SEALKids.
The mission of SEALKids is to support children and families in the Navy SEAL community, mainly through academic tutoring.
For the children of SEALs, their parents are deployed or training for nine months out of every year, and by the time they are 18 years old, most of them have moved an average of nine times.
Normal kids are already stressed out as it is and the children in the Naval Special Warfare community have a special burden to carry.
Veteran James King and his wife were happy they can help ease the stress of these families, even if it's just for a few hours.
"Despite being in tough times, if you can give back, you should," said King, "Whether you're donating your time, your energy, your space if you have one, people should try and give back and serve because that's what this community has done and continues to do for us today,".
Friday's event begins at 6 p.m.
Dinner will be provided by Sullivan's Catering, along with local beer and wine from King Family Vineyards.
A K-9 demonstration will be provided by FrogdogK9, followed by fireside chats with special guests from the Naval Special Warfare community.
