Maine man killed in weekend crash at 81, 64 interchange
AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A man from Maine was killed in a weekend crash in Augusta County.
The Virginia State Police reports the crash occurred around 6:15 a.m. Saturday at the interchange of interstates 81 and 64.
Police say a 2016 Mack tractor trailer was heading west on 64 and took the ramp to get onto southbound 81.
The tractor trailer ran off the right side of the road, went through the guardrail and landed in the northbound lanes of 18, hitting a 2017 Toyota Tacoma.
The driver of the Toyota, identified as 58-year-old Cynthia L. Fanning of Buxton, Maine, suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
Her passenger, identified as 76-year-old Mark J. Fanning of Buxton, died at the scene.
The driver of the Mack, 59-year-old Ronald W. Wenger of Broadway, also suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Police all three people were wearing their seat belts.
Wenger has been charged with reckless driving, and the investigation is ongoing.
