CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Friends of Charlottesville Downtown has sprinkled some Christmas magic on the Downtown Mall.

Magic at the Mall begins this Saturday with Christmas festivities for all the family to enjoy. It's a six-week-long series to get families into the holiday spirit.

Executive Director Greer Achenbach says that this event is meant to bring Charlottesville together this holiday season.

"It's part of our mission as Friends of Charlottesville Downtown is to bring vitality, joy, vibrancy downtown. And to make the Downtown Mall, downtown in general, a place where everyone feels invited and comfortable. So, we have all these family-friendly events we hope will bring everybody down," said Achenbach.

Those events include Selfies with Santa, the Holly Trolley, Music on the Mall, Peppermint Trail, and Elves in Cville.

People who are planning to go should be aware of when the best time will be.

"The busiest time is going to be Saturday afternoons when we have Selfies with Santa from 12 to 4, as well as the Holly Trolley running at the same time," Achenbach advised.

But there are events that run every day.

"We have the cutest scavenger hunt for kids and if they find all the elves, they are eligible for weekly prizes. As well as every child that participates, they can get a prize from Alakazam Toy Stores,"  Achenbach explained.

And it's not just for kids. Parents can enjoy the Peppermint Trail, trying drinks from a morning coffee to a crafted cocktail.

And the best part is that all of these events are intentionally free, so that all of Charlottesville can get a taste of the holiday spirit this Christmas.

"There's a little something for everyone. There is going to be a lot of vitality and we hope that this is something that brings the entire community out," said Achenbach.

Magic on the Mall begins on Saturday and runs through Jan. 8, so bring your family and friends to begin your holiday season.
