CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The University of Virginia hosted a legislative forum for students and community members on Tuesday.

State Senator Creigh Deeds and Delegate Sally Hudson answered questions about the upcoming 2023 session of the General Assembly.

Questions that were asked included ones on teacher salary and standards of education, recycling and trash importation, and the timing of legislative work and the General Assembly.

Deeds said that all legislators try to do the right thing, but they can only operate on the information that's available.

"Sometimes, they don't have the best information," he said. "You can't assume they do. If you know something, say something. If you reach out to legislators, we all have email accounts and get tons of stuff."

Deeds and Hudson both stayed afterward to speak one-on-one with attendees.
