Sam Brunelle debuts live 'Beyond the Arc' show
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Fans are used to seeing Sam Brunelle behind the mic, but now the UVA forward is asking the questions with the debut of her new live show "Beyond the Arc".
"When I was at Notre Dame I did a radio show there that I called Sam's Saloon, I did it for the three years that I was there and I love communications, really wanted to get into broadcasting," Brunelle said, "Since I've been at UVA I've talked to some people about that passion that I've had and that hobby and they helped me put it together."
The first of six shows debuted on Thursday night, live at Timberwood Tap House with special guest UVA guard Kihei Clark. Each show will feature a different Virginia student-athlete.
Brunelle has long wanted to pursue a career in sports broadcasting since calling play-by-play for William Monroe basketball games in high school to other opportunities during her time at Notre Dame. The opportunities from Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) have now given Brunelle the chance to explore those aspirations off the court further.
"A big thing that I'm always interested in with people is learning their story and just having fun outside of being an athlete," Brunelle said, "So basically this show is going to be all about not really basketball related things, we might touch on a couple things, but it's going to be having fun, getting to know them as people and as normal people because that's what we are outside of our sports."
In the short time Brunelle has been back in the Charlottesville area, she has gotten to interact with fans she has known since her days at William Monroe, while building an even bigger fanbase in John Paul Jones Arena. The live shows only give her another opportunity to not only pursue her long term post-basketball goals, but continue to embrace the community.
"You get to meet new people and learn more about them, I've always been a big relationship person and meeting new people is not really hard for me to do," Brunelle said, "I'm really extroverted and so I enjoy things like this where I get to talk to new people and meet them and make new relationships."
You can attend "Beyond the Arc" every Thursday at 6 p.m. at Timberwood Tap House or watch live from home on the Hook Sports Marketing Facebook page.
