CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The University of Virginia Darden School of Business selected Utrain for its Accelerator Program.

This will help the company grow its app, which connects basketball trainers to basketball athletes across the nation.

Daniel Ginsberg, the CEO and Co-founder of Utrain, explains this partnership with Darden means a lot for the company. The accelerator program at Darden gives companies the skills they need to propel themselves in the business world.

For Utrain, its employees are excited to work on improving their app, which only launched 10 months ago. With about $70,000 in financial help and resources, plus nine months of program support, Utrain can get to work on making the basketball app the best in the business.

"They provide funding. A grant opportunity of $20,000. There's also a dedicated office space, right here on the Downtown Mall for nine months that we are going to take full advantage of," said Ginsberg. "They provide mentors and connection in the industry. Right? And so, they can help us, you know, get some of those phone calls that we might not have been able to get by ourselves.”

According to Ginsberg, Utrain spent the past four years developing the app and the company is excited to work with Darden to continue improving it.

Additionally, being accepted into this program is an honor. Less than half of a percentage of start-up businesses are selected for the accelerator program.

This program is not just for graduate students at UVA. It's for any early-stage startup company in Central Virginia. And many companies that have graduated from this program go on to raise more than $150,000.
