UVA Children's Hospital gets donated Teddy Bears and LEGO sets
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Shenvalee Men's Club and Lakeside Book Company made a special delivery to the kids at the University of Virginia Children's Hospital on Tuesday morning.
They donated roughly 500 teddy bears, LEGO sets, and other toys for children to have this Christmas season.
This is the organization's second annual donation. It makes these kinds of deliveries twice a year, right before Christmas and Easter, giving children who are in the hospital and their siblings toys helps to make them feel loved and cared for.
"It's heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. Because it just, really it humbles you, and it makes you realize that you might think you have a bad day, but you really don't," said Justin Harpine, the president of the members' association at the Shenvalee Golf Course. "And then when you see the kids, and they light up when they see the Easter bunny or Santa, and they get a gift, no matter what it is. It could be small or large, they don't care. Just to get something. And you see the smile. It means a lot. And it's what we're all about.”
This holiday's donation is one of the largest the organizations have been able to give so far. It’s twice the amount of toys from last year and organizers hope to continue to grow and donated even more next Christmas.
