CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A conservative group in Virginia has filed a class action lawsuit against the University of Virginia Health System over its COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

The Family Foundation’s complaint alleges when the hospital implemented the mandate, it made a list of faiths that would be allowed to receive an exemption to the mandate.

The suit says employees who attempted to claim a religious exemption but who were not followers of one of the “acceptable religions” were summarily denied exemptions and fired.

The UVA Board of Visitors is also named in the lawsuit.

The Family Foundation, which announced the lawsuit on Thursday, is a socially-conservative lobbying group based in Richmond.

The UVA Health System has not yet responded to a request for comment.
