Each child receiving care at UVA had special visit from Santa and his elves on Christmas Day.

The Santa was familiar to some, it was Charlottesville's Vice Mayor Juan Diego Wade.

He said Santa reached out to him for some help during a very busy time, and he filled in for Santa in order to help the big man reach every child...

Each child had a gift bag specific to them, and one family donated a blanket for each patient.

"When you walk into their room, their face light up, the children's face light up, the parents face light up, you feel joy and peace and you realize hey this is the true meaning of Christmas," Wade said.

He said that helping out as Santa reminds him of how grateful he is to be in the Charlottesville community.

"Because our community gives back so much. The people that are working today, that are taking care of these little beautiful children that are ill. It just makes me feel good to be a part of this great city and part of this community."

His helper elf was his daughter, and Wade said it’s an important Christmas tradition for them.
