Virginia Lottery announces has sold out of New Year's Raffle tickets
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- At 9:23 a.m. Thursday, the Virginia Lottery announced it had sold its last ticket for Virginia’s New Year Millionaire Raffle.
At Market Street Cafe, workers said they had sold two tickets right before that announcement came out.
“People are buying it like crazy. $20 a ticket. There was a guy who came and bought like 20 of them, one at a time,” said the manager of Market Street Café, Brashanna Tamanga.
Across Virginia, 625,000 tickets were sold for the annual raffle. Tickets went on sale Nov. 1.
The winning ticket numbers will be announced at 1 p.m. on Jan. 1.
There are five tickets that will get $1 million prizes, seven tickets will be selected for $100,000 prizes, and 1,000 will get $500 for their holders.
The workers at Market Street Cafe have very high hopes that some special tickets were sold in Charlottesville so someone local gets to start the new year with some money in their pockets.
