Police identify Nelson County woman killed in crash

NELSON COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A Nelson County resident was killed in a Monday night crash.
The Virginia State Police is investigating the crash, which occurred around 9:30 p.m. Monday on Thomas Nelson Highway at the intersection with Arrington Road in the Colleen area.
Police say a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu was heading west on Arrington Road when it attempted to cross Thomas Nelson Highway.
As it crossed, it pulled into the path of a 2016 Chevrolet Spark that was heading south on the Thomas Nelson Highway.
The Spark could not avoid the Malibu, resulting in a crash.
The driver of the Malibu, identified as 37-year-old Tracy A. Replogle of Amherst, and a 31-year-old male passenger were taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
A passenger in the front seat of the Malibu, identified as 25-year-old Elizabeth A. Simmons of Arrington, died at the scene of the crash.
Police say none of the people in the Malibu was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the Spark, 40-year-old Heather A. Provenza of Madison Heights, also suffered serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Police say she was wearing a seat belt.
The investigation into this crash is ongoing and charges are pending.
