CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- "I'll make you an offer" are the words every entrepreneur wants to hear when they go on ABC’s hit show Shark Tank.

And one University of Virginia alumna did hear those words when she pitched her bridesmaid dress business to the sharks.

“I got an email from the production company, which does not even have Shark Tank in the name, so I thought it was spam. I almost didn’t reply to the email, but I’m thankful that I did," said Ashley Young.

And if she didn’t respond to that email, Bridal Babes would not have struck a deal with the founder and CEO of Good American, Emma Grede.

Young started the business Bridal Babes with her husband after shopping for her bridesmaids' dresses became a fashion emergency.

“When I was searching for bridesmaids' dresses, I could not find anything that was not pastel, flowy, tulle, you know, everything that bridesmaids typically do not like to wear,” she said.

The special thing about Bridal Babes is that Young has created curve-hugging designs that complement everyone’s skin tones.

And Bridal Babes offers a wide range of sizes, from 00 to 30, so worrying about not being able to get a dress in the correct size is never an option.

“So we are really founded on the principle of having fashion forward, bridesmaids options, that also look great on curvy women,” Young added.

Bridal Babes has grown into a smashing success and Young credits a lot of that success to skills she learned at the McIntire School of Business at UVA.

“People were always so shocked that I could whip together a presentation in a few hours or answer questions on the fly, and they'd ask 'how do you do that?' Well, McIntire! UVA prepared me for it,” Young explained.

Young gave a piece of advice to young women hoping to achieve what she has.

"Being determined and hard working is so important as an entrepreneur," she added.
