AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A man from Danville has been arrested in Augusta County on malicious wounding and firearms charges.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office says it was contacted by the Danville Police Department on Thursday regarding a malicious wounding case in the Danville area.

During the investigation, it was determined that a suspect, 22-year-old Marques Raeqwon Abbott of Danville, was at the Montague Terrace Apartment Complex in Stuarts Draft.

A search warrant was executed around 3:30 p.m. at the complex and Abbott was arrested.

The sheriff’s office says Augusta County Public Schools was asked to delay student departures around that time “due to the nature of the arrest warrants.”

However, there was no threat to the schools or the buses that would be carrying the students.

Abbott is facing charges of malicious assault with severe injury, attempted malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and shooting a firearm in a public place causing injury.
