Former CASPCA employees allege toxic work environment and mistreatment of animals
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA Board of Directors is looking into allegations of a toxic work environment and mistreatment of animals.
This comes after a letter from almost 60 former employees and current or former volunteers to the board surfaced.
The letter pointed to two core problems at the SPCA: allegations that CEO Angie Gunter has created a “hostile work environment” and the organization's current animal care practices are “deeply concerning and merit investigation.”
“The board takes seriously its commitment to the organization and its mission to provide compassionate treatment for the animals in its care,” wrote members of the board in a statement.
The group responsible for the letter has also been contacted but has not yet responded to requests for interviews.
