CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Chilean Ambassador to the United States was on Grounds on Tuesday, participating in a dialogue about geopolitics.

The University of Virginia Center for Politics' Global Perspectives on Democracy Program hosted Juan Gabriel Valdés. The discussion focused on Chile’s recent constitutional referendum and the relationship between Chile and the U.S.

"We trust each other. We disagree sometimes, but we are good friends. And this is extremely important to Chile because Chile does not depend, Chile chooses to be an excellent friend to the United States," said Valdés.

Other issues impacting Chile and the region were also discussed.

The Ambassador Series allows dialogue between the United States and other countries through public events and international exchanges. Valdés is the 34th ambassador to participate in this series.
