CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The University of Virginia Facilities Management Apprenticeship Program held its graduation for the class of 2022 on Thursday.

This year is special for the program, marking its 40th anniversary.

Since it was established in 1982, about 230 people have gone through the program, with 11 graduating on Thursday who specialized in electrical, HVAC, and plumbing.

The program trains the next generation for the trades, especially since those skills are in high demand.

“Anybody wanting to enter into the building trades whether you want to work at UVA permanently or you just want to come here to get the apprentice program, it is a great opportunity. I recommend it to everybody I talk to,” said Benjamin Melugin, a new graduate.

The graduates will now have the choice to continue to work at UVA or take their talents elsewhere.
