CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Charlottesville mourns the loss of a familiar face in the community. On Saturday, Mark Mincer, the owner of Mincer’s, passed away after battling brain cancer.

His son, Cal Mincer, took over the shop’s legacy and traditions for the fourth generation after his father's diagnosis.

Mincer’s was established on the University of Virginia Corner in 1954, selling UVA apparel. The business has been a Charlottesville institution since the 1940s, first as a pipe shop.

Mincer’s posted on Twitter stating it would be closed Sunday to mourn the loss of their beloved owner Mark Mincer.
