CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Tuesday will mark one year since Virginia last won a matchup against a ranked ACC opponent and to mark the occasion the AP Top 25 set up another.

The Cavaliers slid to No. 8 in the latest AP Top 25 after their loss to Virginia Tech, while NC State debuted in the poll at No. 22. The two ACC foes will meet on Tuesday night at 9 p.m. in their first ranked matchup since 2019.

The ranked tilt will start a key week for UVA with back-to-back home games against the Wolfpack and then Duke on Saturday, but also a chance to shake off the loss to rivals Virginia Tech, which ended their seven-game win streak.

"Every time out we always say everyone is capable, but these are two excellent teams playing good basketball," UVA head coach Tony Bennett said, "So the ability to respond, come off of a hard fought loss at Tech and then be ready fairly soon against maybe one of the hottest teams in our league in NC State."

NC State have won eight of their last nine and four-straight entering Tuesday night. As of late the Wolfpack have had the Cavaliers number winning three of the last four, including a 77-63 blowout in Raleigh in the two team's lone meeting last season.

Virginia's last win at John Paul Jones Arena against NC State came in that ranked matchup in 2019. The Cavaliers have not beaten a ranked ACC opponent since last season's upset of No. 7 Duke in Durham on February 7 and Tuesday will see UVA try to pull off another win a year later.

"That presents a unique challenge with their inside and their outside athleticism and their size," Bennett said, "So get as ready as you can and you're going to have to show up and play well to be successful that's for sure."
