Riggleman explains what he believes threatens America the most
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Former Fifth District Congressman Denver Riggleman says that disinformation is the biggest threat to America and democracy in 2023.
Riggleman appeared at a Senior Statesmen of Virginia event and talked about his book "The Breach," which is about the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection in Washington, D.C. He also shared his stance on QAnon conspiracies and the current state of America.
After Tuesday night's State of the Union, Riggleman says he was disturbed by the actions of certain lawmakers.
"I think last night sort of proved that there's sort of some amazing hostility and tribalism that's still going on. With the lack of decorum in the House, I was embarrassed by it. And that's what bothers me the most. Right? Is that lack of decorum is usually backed on by people who are trying to fundraise or use those moments to get famous. So, I think when performative actions overcome real policy for the American people, we're in real trouble,” he said.
Riggleman also goes on to say that China is a big foreign threat to the county, but the biggest domestic threat is disinformation. He says that disinformation allows for the inability to determine what is and separate fact from fiction.
