CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- COVID-19 shots are now included in schedules of routinely recommended vaccines.

These schedules summarize current vaccine recommendations but don't set requirements for schools or workplaces. As of Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a report noting the addition of the COVID-19 vaccine.

At the University of Virginia Health System, experts say this is not unexpected.

"This is what we could anticipate and I think is an example of where we're at in terms of the pandemic now that we are at a point where we are coming out of the pandemic and are returning to a more normal state. Part of the normal state, now, will include a general recommendation for COVID vaccination," said Dr. Costi Sifri, with infectious diseases at UVA Health.

This does not mean the COVID-19 vaccine will be required in schools. States and local jurisdictions will make that decision.
