Shooting on Cherry Avenue and high police presence in investigation at Timberland Apartments

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Saturday, March 4, Charlottesville Police Department responded to a shooting that left one person dead and heavy police presence in an apartment complex.
At approximately 2:00 p.m. responded to two people shot inside the Sunshine Mini Mart on 827 Cherry Ave. One individual was killed and the second was transported to UVA Medical Center in critical condition. According to Chief Michael Kochis with the CPD, three individuals are believed to be involved.
"I can say with high certainty that the two individuals within this business knew each other, and this is just another example of folks trying to resolve disputes with firearms," Chief Kochis said.
There is also heavy police presence at the Timberland Apartments. CPD believes that this is in connection to the Cherry Ave. shooting. Police urge residents to shelter in place and avoid the area.
Both ACPD and CPD are working together to locate a vehicle that might be connected. There is no further description or information at this time regarding the vehicle or the victims.
This investigation is ongoing. According to the CPD, there is no threat to the public. CPD says that they will release a statement on Sunday, March 5.
Update: At 6:15 p.m. the ACPD released that they have lifted the shelter in place order at Timberland Apartments. A high volume of police presence will still be in the area.
