CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Haven hosted its 13th annual Run for Home event on Saturday. 

Proceeds from this event support The Haven, which is a safe and welcoming day shelter for people experiencing homelessness. The Haven serves more than 85 people each day.

Ocean Aiello, the Haven’s Community Engagement Coordinator, says this event is important to hold at this time of year.

“It was very much intended to be at a cold time of the year to have folks kind of reflect on what would it mean to be unsheltered. What would it mean to be without a home? Like so many of our neighbors,” said Aiello.

The shelter intends to meet people's basic needs such as a shower, phone and computer access, and a mailing address with the goal that the people using the facility are seeking affordable housing. Aiello says the only answer to homelessness is affordable housing.
