ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The annual Bow-WOW-Walk is coming up next month, and people can sign up to participate now.

The Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA will be holding the family and pet-friendly event on April 22 at the Boar’s Head Resort.

This is one of the animal shelter’s biggest fundraisers, and this year’s goal is to raise $100,000.

Emily Swecker, CASPCA’s director of development and communications, says she thinks it’s the most interactive event the shelter holds.

All dog owners, including those who have been adopted or fostered by the CASPCA, can join in.

“It’s really a great time for our staff, for the community, for the poets of the community to come together,” Swecker said. “ We’re kicking it off with a competitive 5K run and then that’s followed by a non-competitive 5K doggie walk. Then we will have some post-festivities.”

Some of the activities include K-9 competitions, food trucks and the fan-favorite doggie ice cream.

More than $28,000 has been raised so far.
