HENRICO, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Several members of the Henrico County Sheriff’s Office are facing a murder charge in connection with the death of a mental health patient.

According to WRIC, seven deputies have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

The Virginia State Police says the deputies turned themselves in to officials on Tuesday.

The charges stem from the death of Irvo Otieno, a 28-year-old man from Richmond who was admitted to Central State Hospital in Dinwiddie County on March 6.

VSP says Otieno became “combative” during the intake process at the hospital and was physically restrained. He later died.

The deputies are 57-year-old Randy Joseph Boyer, 37-year-old Dwayne Alan Bramble, 45-year-old Jermaine Lavar Branch, 43-year-old Bradley Thomas Disse, 50-year-old Tabitha Renee Levere, 48-year-old Brandon Edwards Rodgers, and 30-year-old Kaiyell Dajour Sanders.

Bramble lives in Sandston and Sanders lives in North Chesterfield. The rest are residents of Henrico.

They are being held without bond at the Meherrin River Regional Jail.

VSP says the investigation into this in-custody death is ongoing. An official cause of death has not yet been released.
