CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The University of Virginia Health System has been named the best-in-class hospital in Virginia, according to the WebMD Patient Choice and Medscape Physician Choice awards.

Both awards are based on surveys of clients and physicians in the United States.

On the survey, respondents were asked, "to select the health system they believe provides the best overall quality and treatment capability." For the Commonwealth, they selected UVA Health.

UVA Health was selected as a leading Virginia health system in all five specialties surveyed, including oncology, cardiology, orthopedics, neurology, and gastroenterology.

"Health care workers have been working really, really hard over the last three years, first with COVID and staffing shortages, and so have received recognition, said K. Craig Kent, the CEO of UVA Health. "They do a great job. People recognize the level of care that you provide. I think it's just the right message at just the right time for all of our health care workers at UVA."

He also mentions how this could not be possible without all the front-line health workers, especially with staff shortages and the increase in patients this past year.
