CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A popular free summer concert series returns, starting Friday night.

Fridays After Five will kick off its 2023 season with Mad Maxx and the Groove Train Band with Lydia Station at the Ting Pavilion.

It all starts at 5:30 p.m. on the Downtown Mall.

This is the 35th year for the concert series, which runs from April 14 to Sept. 8 and offers chances to hear multiple styles of music.

Each week, volunteers will be working concessions and proceeds will help support nonprofits around the area.
