Webinars on understanding Alzheimer's Disease

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- An upcoming two-part webinar aims to help people understand dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease.
Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital says while Alzheimer’s is the most commonly diagnosed form of dementia, it is not the only form of dementia and it is not just memory loss associated with old age.
According to a release, correctly diagnosing dementia can help find the best treatments and support.
Specifically, Alzheimer’s is a progressive and fatal brain disease.
Brooke Gill, the program manager for the Central and Western Virginia Chapters of the Alzheimer’s Association, will lead the webinars that are part of the First Tuesday Education series on diagnosing Alzheimer’s and other dementia-causing illnesses.
The first webinar will take place May 2 beginning at 5 p.m. This one will focus on how Alzheimer’s affects the brain, the detection of the disease, its causes and risk factors, stages of the disease, treatment and more.
The second webinar, focused on the common signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s, will take place June 6.
