Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D'Sean Perry honored at NFL Draft
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- On a night Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D'Sean Perry surely dreamed of during their football careers, the NFL took a moment to honor the three Virginia players tragically killed in the November shooting on Grounds.
Nearly 20 minutes before the draft got underway in Kansas City, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced the first picks of the draft with the families of Chandler, Davis Jr. and Perry joining him on stage.
"With the first picks in the 2023 NFL draft, we welcome to the NFL family, D'Sean Perry, Lavel Davis and Devin Chandler of the University of Virginia," Goodell announced to the crowd.
Goodell then handed a No. 23 jersey to each family with a Miami Dolphins jersey to the Perry family, a Baltimore Ravens jersey to the Davis family and a Jacksonville Jaguars jersey to the Chandler family.
Before Goodell took the stage, UVA alums Melissa Stark from the NFL Network and former All-American offensive lineman D’Brickahsaw Ferguson spoke about the tragedy and the three players. Virginia Director of Athletics Carla Williams and head football coach Tony Elliott were also in attendance for the presentation, according to ESPN.
