CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS)-- After tying up the series on Saturday the Cavaliers fell in the finale against Duke 7-3, surrendering the top spot in the ACC Coastal division.

UVA's freshman pitcher Jack O'Connor had a tough start on the mound as Duke jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. O'Connor let up three straight walks,  which all came home thanks to a RBI from Giovanni DiGiacomo. Duke extended the lead in the fourth on a solo home run from Alex Stone. The solo shot was Stone's third home run of the series.

UVA finally found their footing in the 6th inning as Kyle Teel knocked off a RBI double to send in Ethan O'Donnell. Jake Gelof would cut the lead in half on a two run homerun to make it a 6-3 game. Gelof’s 18th home run tied him with Jon Benick for the third-most by a Cavalier in a season.

But Duke responded with an insurance run in the 8th inning as DiGiacomo came around to score on an RBI ground out by Tyler Albright to give Duke a 7-3 advantage.

The Cavaliers return to the Dish to take on VCU Tuesday at 6pm.
