Charlottesville man facing drug, other charges in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A Charlottesville man was arrested in Orange County on drug and other charges.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Independence Road and Boston Road in Unionville around 3 a.m. April 23.
The deputy believed the driver might be intoxicated based on driving behavior, but when he tried to pull the car over, it wouldn’t stop.
The deputy pursued the suspect vehicle for more than 10 minutes, while another deputy joined in the chase and a third deployed Stop Sticks that flattened three of the vehicle’s tires.
During the chase, the deputies saw items being thrown out of the car window.
Once the car came to a stop on Zachary Taylor Highway and Independence Road, the driver was arrested.
Investigators were able to retrieve the items that had been thrown out during the chase, which were identified as methamphetamine.
Investigators found Psilocybin mushrooms on the driver as well as packaging materials and scales in the vehicle.
The driver, identified as 40-year-old Shane Dillon Shifflett, has been charged with possession of schedule I/II Psilocybin mushrooms and possession of schedule I/II with intent to sell methamphetamine.
He is also facing charges of failing to drive on the right side of the road, felony eluding, and driving after having his license revoked in connection with a DUI charge.
Shifflett is being held without bond at the Central Virginia Regional Jail.
