ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Monticello Cup has a new name on it this year.

Pippin Hill Farm and Vineyards won the Monticello Wine Trail's 2023 Monticello Cup after submitting its Wild Acre wine, a Tannat and Cabernet Franc blend.

According to the Monticello Wine Trail Facebook page, this year's competition included more than 56 wines from around the Monticello American Viticultural Area.

"As we've invested more and more into the wine program, we've been getting more awards but this is by far the biggest milestone achievement that the company has seen in its 13 years," said Brooks Hoover, production manager at Pippin Hill.

The award was given Tuesday night. The vineyard is expecting plenty of tasters to visit this weekend to try the wine and enjoy the hospitality.
