CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS) -- Virginia jumped out with the first eight runs of the game before holding a late rally from James Madison to pick up a 9-8 win heading into the finals break.

UVA now moves to 24-0 on the season in non-conference play and have won 28-straight games against non-ACC opponents going back to last season.

Midweek starter Connelly Early gave the Cavaliers another quality start on his way to a 9th win on the season, tied for the most in the ACC, after pitching six innings with six strikeouts on no runs allowed. The UVA bullpen struggled though allowing the Dukes to jump back into the game and make the score 9-8 before Jay Woolfolk was able to close out the game and pick up his 7th save of the year.

Virginia got a big day from the middle of the order with Ethan O'Donnell, Jake Gelof and Kyle Teel combining for nine hits and four RBI. O'Donnell continued his impressive week a night after setting a season-high with four RBI, the center fielder followed up by going four-for-five with an RBI. Gelof added to his nation's leading RBI total with a double in the second inning, giving him 73 for the season.

The Cavaliers are off now until next Wednesday, May 10 against Radford due to the finals break.
