ACPS, ACPD investigating unspecified social media threat

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Officials are investigating an unspecified social media threat that was reported Friday morning.
According to a community message sent to families in Albemarle County, students at Lakeside Middle School shared an image with the principal that showed a general threat against an unspecified school.
School officials say the information in the message was not relevant to any schools in the Albemarle County Public Schools division, and the student named in the post is not enrolled in ACPS.
When school officials notified police, the Albemarle County Police Department said there had recently been a similar incident at another school in a different division. That incident was deemed not credible.
As a precaution, ACPD is investigating to see if the source of the post can be identified.
However, the poor quality of the image suggests it has been copied and redistributed several times and it has reportedly appeared in other geographic areas.
Anyone who has a copy of the image is asked to not redistribute it.
ACPS says it is believed this threat is not credible and does not require a disruption for normal school operations.
