LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A Madison County man has been arrested for a homicide that occurred in Louisa County on Tuesday.

According to the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a shots fired call on the 700 block of South Lakeshore Drive around 3:20 p.m.

While they were heading to the scene, there was a report of a victim who had been shot.

Deputies found a man, identified as 29-year-old Alex Brown of Louisa, suffering from several apparent gunshot wounds when they got to the scene.

Brown was declared dead at the scene and his body has been taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

During the investigation, deputies determined that the shots had been fired by 36-year-old David Allen Branham of Madison, who was reportedly involved in a recent custody dispute involving Brown.

Branham also allegedly shot into a vehicle occupied by Brown and several others.

Branham has been arrested on charges of second-degree murder and attempted malicious wounding. Additional charges are pending.

He is being held without bond at the Central Virginia Regional Jail.

The sheriff’s office says this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
