Honor a mother and provide safety to a woman in need

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Mother’s Day is coming up this weekend, and a local crisis shelter is raising money to help women who are experiencing domestic violence.
For each $45 gift, the Shelter for Help in Emergency will send a Mother’s Day card to a recipient of the donor’s choice.
That person will be notified that a donation was made in their honor that will help a woman take the first step toward a safer life.
Each donation of $45 will provide for a night of safe housing for a woman in need.
SHE says many of the women that it serves are trying to escape violent homes and protect their children.
Each year, the organization provides nearly 5,000 nights of safe shelter to women from the Central Virginia area.
