GREENE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A school in Greene County is being cleaned up.

William Monroe High School is closed Friday after vandalism was discovered during the early morning hours.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is investigating this incident as a crime and there could be prosecution for the person or people who did it.

Sources say the vandals broke chairs, set off fire extinguishers and put several large holes in walls as well as other damage.

The Greene County Technical Education Center is also not holding classes on Friday.

Additionally, the Greene County Department of Parks and Recreation has postponed the Mother Son Dance that was going to be held this weekend at the school.

The event will be rescheduled for a future date, and all registered participants will be transferred to that new date once it is announced.

However, athletic events that are scheduled for Friday are currently not being changed.
