CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Bike-to-Work Week kicked off Monday in Charlottesville.

The event came to life at the Piedmont Mobility Summit back in February, and the organizers say they're really excited to host events all week.

A big one on Tuesday is a group commute, called a bike bus, that starts at the Wool Factory and goes to the University of Virginia with stops along the way.

Peter Krebs with the Piedmont Environmental Council said an event like that is crucial to get people involved who are hesitant about biking.

"One of the interesting things about Albemarle and Charlottesville is most people live within like an eight-mile radius. Which actually is something that one can cover on a bike. But there's some sorts of mysteries like do I have the right bike, you know, what's the best route. We're creating a community where you can be with people more experienced with it," he said.
