Virginia Theatre Festival to kick off 2023 season

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Virginia Theatre Festival will host a season kick-off event on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Quirk Hotel Charlottesville Gallery.
The event will feature remarks by VTF Artistic Director Jenny Wales; Matthew Steffens, director of the upcoming season-opening production of Cabaret and fresh off the Tony-nominated Broadway smash-hit production and national tour of Into the Woods; and Jody Kielbasa, Vice Provost for the Arts at the University of Virginia.
The 2023 season will begin on July 7 at the Culbreth Theatre with the classic musical Cabaret, a story of seedy nightlife set in pre-World War II Berlin that was turned into a popular 1972 movie featuring Liza Minnelli.
The show will be followed by Ken Ludwig’s Dear Jack, Dear Louise, a look back at a World War II courtship conducted across thousands of miles and entirely through the U.S. Mail. It will open on July 21 at the Helms Theatre.
The season will conclude with An Evening with Yolanda Rabun, a musical journey across genres ranging from R&B to gospel to musical theater and more. The multitalented Rabun wowed audiences last summer in her one-woman show, No Fear and Blues Long Gone: Nina Simone.
An Evening with Yolanda Rabun will run from August 3-6 at Culbreth Theatre.
