VSP investigating fatal crash in Orange County

ORANGE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A Locust Grove resident was killed in a crash that occurred in Orange County on Tuesday.
According to the Virginia State Police, the crash occurred around 2:10 p.m. on Zachary Taylor Highway just north of the intersection with Transco Road.
Police say a 2019 GMC Yukon was heading north on Zachary Taylor Highway when it crossed the centerline and hit a southbound 2021 Freightliner tractor trailer head-on.
The driver of the GMC, identified as 68-year-old John J. O’Donnell of Locust Grove, died at the scene.
The driver of the Freightliner, a 31-year-old man from North Chesterfield, was taken to Mary Washington Hospital with minor injuries.
Police say both of them were wearing a seat belt.
The crash closed Zachary Taylor Highway for about 10 hours. It reopened around 1 a.m. Wednesday.
The investigation into this crash is ongoing.
